Hi everyone,
I wanted to start looking at investing into shares however there are so many platforms but have been recommended the 'Halifax Share Deal', please can people give me their opinions on what they use?
Thanks
Martin

I use Halifax and have been pretty satisfied. Costs are low for larger portfolios (£12.50 a year), and they have a commission countdown every month where trades are £3.95.0

I use iWeb which is part of Halifax, works out cheaper and very pleased with them. Really depends how you intend to use the account, others may be cheaper or more expensive depending on your use. There is a spreadsheet on here that compares costs of platforms.
Are you planning on using an ISA? Or do you have that elsewhere?Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
I use Halifax Share Dealing and it's fine. They have an app coming out for Android soon which will make it easier to use. The Apple app is already available.0

You really need to tell us how often you intend to invest, how much you intend to invest, and in what.Martin92 said:Hi everyone,

Worth noting charges are increasing from 1st April to £36 per year. Dealing fees are reducing though to £9.95.arnoldy said:I use Halifax and have been pretty satisfied. Costs are low for larger portfolios (£12.50 a year), and they have a commission countdown every month where trades are £3.95.

Still not a great amount, but might be worth scoping out some alternatives.0 -
I use iweb and x-o and would recommend you also look at them before choosing Halifax Share Deal to make sure that you get the best deal for your needs. Though x-o might be too restrictive for you as you can only buy/sell shares in companies (though that does allow you to buy/sell ETFs and investment trusts).

Just to be 100% clear, there is no such thing as 'the Halifax Share Deal', it's not like a bundled meal deal at your favourite supermarket! There is a Halifax Share Dealing platform though, but if someone has recommended this to you, did you explain to them what you're actually looking for?Martin92 said:I wanted to start looking at investing into shares however there are so many platforms but have been recommended the 'Halifax Share Deal', please can people give me their opinions on what they use?
Have you understood that individual shares are significantly riskier than diversified collective investments, which are typically better suited to inexperienced investors? As a rule of thumb, someone needing to ask for guidance on (the relatively small number of) platforms is unlikely to have the researching capabilities to make a success out of constructing a portfolio from (the relatively large number of) individual shares....0 -
Maybe HSD could introduce an offer of purchasing an OEIC, an IT and an ETF for £2.99?1
