I had no problem tethering my old SE to this laptop, but battery on that phone completely 'died' before Christmas, hence the new one.

    A ha.
Then definitely try deleting the WiFi profile for your iPhone SE hotspot from the known WiFi networks under Windows 10 WiFi settings. I'm now over 80% certain this will solve your problem. I think it is expecting the SSID and some other detail about the hostspot to match the profile, but because the profile is for your old phone, it doesn't see the new phone's hot spot as a new network.

In theory, if the SSID and password are the same it should work. But I frequently find that isn't always the case and old WiFi profiles have to be deleted.

A dream is not reality, but who's to say which is which?

    Sorry for delay

How do I delete the WiFi profile for my iPhone? In the ‘Manage known networks’ setting on laptop, do I just click ‘Forget’ or is there something else?

Presumably I just then set it up again

Frustratingly, while it was detecting husbands iPhone, it now won’t!
