Edge Chromium storing internet cache even though I don't browse with it

last year sometime I noticed that my CCleaner was showing Edge Chromium as a browser when I cleaned up my laptop. I'd never actively downloaded it nor Edge itself so I presumed they were installed as part of a windows update. I uninstalled Edge but the next windows update reinstalled it along with Edge Chromium and it now seems impossible to uninstall either. I use Firefox normally and sometimes Chrome as back-up and never used Edge or Edge Chromium (I can't even find Edge Chromium  on my laptop though CCleaner seems to id it as a browser). Today when I did my occasional clean up I noticed the internet cache for Edge Chromium was larger than that on Firefox even though I'd never used Edge Chromium. Can someone explain what is/ how this is happening and is there a way to stop it / delete Edge and Edge Chromium?

Although Edge is not your default browser, it will still be the default for handling some requests/content.

And I know, for example, the PowerShell cmdlet 'invoke-webrequest' will use IE11 for serving web requests, unless the '-usebasicparsing' option passed in. I wonder if it has been updated to use Edge? There are possibly other Windows components using Edge to serve up web requests.

I would try, for example, clearing the Edge cache, checking for Windows Updates and then see if it has increased in size. That might give one plausible answer. I wonder if using the Windows Store or updating the Windows Store apps would have the same effect?
