Smart meters

Whilst I was out recently, edf gained access to my property (a cleaner let them in) and despite there being a big red A4 sign on the door to the original meter saying 'DO NOT FIT A SMART METER AT THIS ADDRESS' and therefore obviously against my wishes. Went ahead regardless and fitted a Smart meter.
When I contacted edf to complain and to have it removed I was informed that they cannot remove it. Any ideas?

    Any ideas?
Hope that the fitter at least installed a SMETS2 meter. And left you with an IHD along with an explanation of how to get a replacement IHD if the one you have is lost/broken or fails.

Learn to live with a smart meter?
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Perhaps you should have told your cleaner not to let anybody in.
Putting big signs up everywhere doesn't actually mean they're going to be read or even abided by, the visitor has come to fit the meter, not read your signs.

Anyway surely they don't just turn up out of the blue?  Aren't most smart meters done on appointments that you would have known about in advance?  You could have phoned EDF and said thanks but no thanks, please cancel this and then if they still turned up anyway, say you know nothing about it and not let them in.

OP, why not pretend that you still have standard meters fitted by hiding the supplied IHD and still giving regular readings?
  • Smart meter installers do not turn up unannounced. My supplier sent me a number of messages about my recent SMETS2 smart meter installation confirming the booking; timings; CV19 precautions etc. It sounds like someone had second thoughts after agreeing to have a smart meter installed. The supplier has the right to say ‘tough’ if the appointment wasn’t cancelled. Speak nicely to them and they might agree to disable the comms hub, or fit analogue meters at cost.
