My mother is elderly and forgetful.....we bought her an iphone and she's put a 6 digit pin number on it....now she can't remember it!
Is the phone useless now?  We didn't back it up on a computer we formatted it over wifi and her ipad is fine.
She's now distraught!

I don't know if that will work because I didn't back it up for her.  Regretting that now.

If you have proof of purchase then Apple will help, you'd need to go to a store when they reopen I don't think they do this over the phone.
    If not, it's a brick.

pretty sure an elderly and forgetful person wont have that much irreplaceable data stored on it.

    Just factory reset it

and, if they have, will have forgotten what it was anyway.

If it was logged into an Apple account when it was set up I thought you could connect to a pc and reset via iTunes ( or whatever they use now )
