This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about
everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great,
inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old
Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already.
Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check
the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style
natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it
would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content.
Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW
internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art –
links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a
title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read
everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a
problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at
night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads
live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new
daily thread after they get up in the morning message.
Good morning, it's bitterly cold here, with a thick frost.
I've been awake for what seems like hours, so I thought I might as well get up and have a hot drink.
We went fo a walk yesterday to the riverside park, there were quite a lot of people around, there usually are in that park, dog walkers, runners and wanderers like us. We fed the birds, and strolled about a bit until sleet started to fall, so we hurried home. It was nice to be out though.
I think I'll get through another day without shopping, but i must do a bit tomorrow, yesterday on the way home from the park I called at Morries for bread to keep us going. DH is not a big bread eater anyway.
Today, what delights does today hold - I will try and set up online shopping, either delivery or click and collect. The last time I tried it was manic but things might have calmed down a bit now. We do live very near our local Morries and we have a Te*co and Al*i, but really I think it's safer to shop online.
Not much else on the agenda today, I'll probably continue with a bit of cardmaking, and the usual jobs,
Thinking of those who are not well, and/or struggling with life in general.
Take care folks.

Morning folks and thanks fellow insomniac SCARLET for starting us off. Hallelujah no more snow overnight! It snowed constantly all day yesterday until 5 pm. I despaired of it ever stopping. True to their word the council had the gritters out all day and the main roads were kept clear. We are usually forgotten up here but they were up and down the hill quite regularly. I don't think we have had a day without any snow since last Sunday!!
As usual no plans for the day. Going nowhere, seeing no-one. The bedding is in washing as I speak and other than remaking the bed que sera sera. If I get bored of slobbing around I'm sure I will find a job or two to occupy my idle hands! I had a long phone conversation with my DB yesterday which was nice and broke the day up nicely. I also had to ring the vets as Sparkle's allergy is erupting again. Her last injection was mid November so she has lasted a bit longer than the usual month! We have to wait till Tuesday but that's no problem as it's early days and it's not bothering her yet. By last night DD was feeling more herself after the 2nd jab. They do affect her badly and I'm hoping when it's my turn I'm not clobbered as badly!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Thinking of RUBY and her family, BELLA and MARIE and anyone else with worries. Take care one and all and stay safe xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"14 -

Yesterday I stayed in feeling rather caged.Ruby- it sounds trite to say 'well done' for getting through your dreadful task the other dsy. You and your sister have shown such love to your brother and mother in dreadful times. ❤️Happy Saturday to everyone.14

Morning Scarlett and everyone
Cold here to definitely a day for snuggling on the couch with the heating on.
Shopping back to normal today so my regular slot at 8. Still don't need much but had used up lots of sauces/pickles like horseradish and branston over Christmas so made it up with those. Looks like no subs so all good
Have a major dinner fail last night. Wanted to try some veggie sausages that had some good reviews so I cooked the pack with the plan to freeze some for another day. Well all I did was confirm myself as a hardened meat eater ....they were vile. The house still smells of them today so the windows will have to be open cold or not. Add to my disaster I overcooked the oven chips so not even a chip butty to save the day. Back to my old favourite liver and onion gravy today with some mash. Doubt I can get that wrong
No other plans just the usual house stuff and my volunteer call
Have a good day all if you can x14 -
Good morning everyone
Another freezing cold morning here but still no snow for which I am very grateful. The dogs had a quick run around the garden and then came in to sleep next to the radiator...very sensible.
I am still fighting this cold but I know it's not much in the grand scheme of things. My nose is red and sore though so I would give Rudolph a run for his money. Nevermind, just another reason to stay cwtched up under my blanket with my knitting.
Steve is making tea tonight, we are having chilli con carne with wedges. We don't have it too hot as Lee can't handle very spicy food but it should still blow a few cold germs away hopefully. I made honey and harissa chicken with roast veg last night from the new Pinch of Nom cookbook and it was delicious. I will definitely make it again.
I am waiting for some new knitting patterns of Harry Potter characters to make for my grand daughter's birthday in March. She absolutely loves the books and films so I know she will love these. I can't believe she is going to be 13 this year. I hope we will be able to celebrate it out of Lockdown.
Thinking of you and your family Ruby xx
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx14 -

Morning All
Nearly had a bad turn then, the thread says Sunday - please tell me it's Saturday!
It's presently -8 here but looks like a nice bright morning. I slept quite well, only woke up coughing twice. I think a swig of night time cough medicine helped! If I hadn't needed the loo and a cup of tea I would probably still be in bed.
No plans for today, will do a bit of shopping later, hopefully the pavements aren't too slippy. I only need fruit and veg so it's not worth taking the car out.
What a rotten day for you Ruby. It's certainly not a good start to the year but you and your sister have shown amazing courage and love.
Hope you can all have a good Saturday, take care. XX12 -
Good morning and thank you for starting the thread ScarletRibbons.
I have had a patchy night so am a bit tired but the heating has come on so at least I'm warm. Temperature has risen from the minuses to freezing point so positively balmy compared to the last two days. I'm wearing my extra thick socks of extra fluffiness and to my horror, there is now a big hole in one.
Today I have no plans, what a surprise! I do need to sweep up under the birdtable, the squirrels push a lot of food off and the flagstones are looking a total mess.
Yesterday I had a visit from a neighbour's very sweet pet cat, which came up to me, chirped a bit and then purred when I gave her a little fuss. This is the only one of the local cats that has done that, the others are very stand offish and only come to stalk birds, in which they fail each time. This one I have seen before, she is very sleek and well cared for with a very warm, fluffy tummy, she showed me so that she could get that stroked too. Amazing that she had me properly trained in under 2 minutes.
Thinking of our sad or poorly posters.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -
Morning all. Another in the sleepless club as I was awake at daft o'clock. I seem to have a good night followed by several non-sleep ones.I didn't get everything finished yesterday as I got side-tracked......... nothing new there ! I decided that before I hoovered the upstairs that I would clean the bedroom window and while doing that I noticed a few people going into the rental house next door, they may be the new neighbours. I haven't noticed any furniture going in but an older lady was taking in a whirly, seems she has her priorities right
I also cut my fringe so the dulux dog look is no more, cooked tea and then ran out of steam
So today I must finish that hoovering and also feed the birds as they are lining up on the patio looking anxious. The wm is already on with a dark load and that's the basket empty again , hoorah ! Sadly no outdoor drying today, it's a balmy 0 degrees but the sky is grey.
Tea tonight will be meatballs and pasta and the last of the crumble.Right the wm is finished so I'm off to drape it around the upstairs.Hope all the poorlies are on the road to recovery. Hugs to those finding life difficult at present.Take care stay safe and well.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently13 -
Ruby, my thoughts are with you and your family.
I did a double take when I saw the day as well, I had to think twice.
It's foggy here but no snow, Laura is very disappointed and we can't even get to the Yorkshire house atm to take advantage there. We've got someone going in every so often to check things are ok but it's ages since we were there and I do want to go back as soon as things calm down.
Steve had his treatment this week and had a conversation with the consultant about the vaccine. The upshot was that any of the jabs is suitable but they may delay his next treatment after it because it suppresses the immune system so might affect how the vaccine works and it's effectiveness.
I'm squirreled away with my laptop because Esben disabled the keypad and I needed to find out how to get it working again. He's a joy but into everything. Laura and I hope to leave him with Brian to do some sewing today and I think I'll let someone else do the cooking - I am cooking 5 meals out of 7 and I think I deserve a break. I bet we end up with a takeaway.11 -
Morning all
Still no snow here but thick frost again and not meant to get above freezing all day. I had a bad night too and although shattered I just could not sleep, I read my kindle till the battery died and then started on a book, a nana nap will be needed today !!
I phoned the hospital yesterday about the dry dressing they eventually phoned back and said could you come in now !! Cue the quickest ever shower and a mad dash over there, the 'dry' bandge had stuck to the wound and I had ripped it off the night before by bending down, it kept resticking and comming off again, the consultant took one look and said it has to come off, so much gritting of teeth by me he managed to get it off, it had taken all the new skin growth off with it so all those weeks of new growth gone !! he also removed some dead skin and some stitches which had not disolved and applied a new 'wet' dressing I am to go back Tuesday but dont know what we can do going forward as a dry dressing will just do the same again.
I popped in to see mum and brother yesterday, mum has gone into 'feeding' mode and cooked pork chops mash etc to try and tempt brother who just could not face it, she asked me to get two chickens today to cook for him, he was in the background shaking his head, she is desperate to feed him up and he just cant face it, he did manage some soup and a bit of rice pudding so thats something, he does look poorly though, I think he is planning on going home this weekend to tell the boys which will devestate them and him
I have a wash on the go but it will have to go in the td today, we need some food too so im hoping OH will go and do a shop as I cant face it, I had a meltdown last night as the bin needed emptying !! it seems everything is sending me over the egde atm.
Have good days all and stay safe xx14
