Hi guys,

I’m currently in the process of buying carpet for my whole house (living room and lounge, bedrooms, stairs and landing).

I’ve been reading online and have seen a lot of recommendations for the Cloud 9 Cumulus.

However, on looking at density it seems the Connoisseur has a higher density.

I’m not an expert in carpet at all do not sure which would be better to go with?

The carpet I’m looking to couple it up with is the Kingsmead Tranquillity Platinum.

thank you in advance for any help :)

There's not much in it to make any difference. IMO, I'd go for Cumulus as it is (was) the go to underlay, is thicker, has a higher tog rating and is also cheaper to buy usually.

Thank you Neil, yes I was thinking the same in terms of spec they seem very similar so was confused which to go for.

They both seem to get good amounts of recommendation with the cumulus edging it slightly.

The place I’m wanting to buy the carpet off have offered me an underlay which goes by the name of Elegance 10mm Underlay, made by a company called Fells.

never heard of it, not sure how it stacks up against the cumulus?

I would tend to go with what you have heard of and can get feedback on. The only time I would not advise a thick underlay over a thin one is on stairs. The PU foam underlays like Cloud 9 are less safe and not as hard wearing on stairs.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Ideally you would want a higher density but thinner (9mm) underlay for stairs.

Cloud 9 11mm all day long, I use it all the time and is the only one i recommend. I also have it my house, and 10 years later its till as good as new, just replaced my carpets and underlay was fine.
