Hello
After a bit of advice please as I'm getting confused what's best to do from reading around online.
I have 6 credit cards which I believe is too many and I have used these cards to keep moving money into new balance transfer cards until my debt was cleared interest free. I have now cleared all my debt on 5 of these cards bar one and would like to close some if it has any advantage to me.

Cards as follows
Aqua (longest held card) highest limit out of the 5 cleared
Capital one
Virgin
First direct
MBNA
Barclaycard (still has a balance to pay off)
All of these was opened as a BT cards and they aren't ideal to use going forward as the interest is quite high
Capital one and first direct and MBNA card all have small 2k limits
Virgin has 3.5k limit

Which should I close if any please?

I'd probably close the Cap One if you really feel you want to, as it has low long term potential.

But I would just keep them all open for now. Use a few to keep them active and as you gain better cards, let some just drift in dormancy.

I'd open a barclays, natwest & rbs account and put two credit card direct debits on each. Use each credit card one once a month, transfer enough money to meet the banks minimum in and then transfer it to the next.
You'll have £9 a month for a few minutes work.
  • OP have you made any transaction on any (or all of) the cards that you might want to query regarding a refund or warranty problems in the future.
If so keep those open as it will be much easier to claim on an open card rather than a closed one.

Capital One would be the only one I'd close (and have closed personally) as they aren't so generous with their credit limits on average, and seem to focus more on those that carry low balances frequently earning them a bit of extortionate interest. Otherwise I'd leave your collection as is, and ensure you pop a transaction on each one fairly regularly, paying in full by DD, keeping them very much alive.
