Wood burner smell - general query

After coming in from the last few evening/nightime runs, my clothes have smelt of smoke, so much so that the family have asked if ive been near a fire. I know there is the chance that I have been running so fast that there was a blaze of fire and smoke behind me but sadly that wasnt the case
Its definitely smoke and not sweat and after hanging up in the spare room overnight my run jacket is generally clear.
My question is - I can smell smoke/woodburning fires as I run round the streets but are the smoke particles really that 'sticky' that I am picking so many of them up as I run? I must be breathing in loads as well.
Thanks

I keep my smallest bedroom window cracked open a tad at night, just for a gentle breeze. Certainly can smell wood fires when neighbours are burning them. I think it's a lockdown cosiness 'hygge' thing. Wood fire + throw or blanket + hot chocolate + feel good movie + snacks.
How harmful wood smoke is, I don't know. We've had wood fires for thousands of years.0
