  • Your house was sold a couple of weeks back, so you clearly can find buyers, so get it back on the market, reduce the price to take into account the dilapidations and try and get some more housemates temporarily, as you managed to get those before as well. Im assuming with you being such a high earner you have some equity so can hopefully downsize to something more appropriate and in better condition. You cant go on spending your high salary on some of your mortgage and leaving yourself nothing for food and warmth. Benefits cannot help people with high salaries like yourself. It is simply a case of you have to sell your home as you can no longer afford it, and likely havent been able to afford it for a while...
The buyer fell through. You can't say buyers can be found until one reaches exchange. If buyers keep pulling out, there's no guarantee any will ever pull through. As for your comments about reducing the price, not everyone is in a situation to be able to do that. There is a mortgage involved & I've already reduced it to the max they will allow, losing all of my deposit & the little left of life savings over the course of decades. I'd have actually been better off living off benefits or going on holidays looking back on my life ! Don't worry if you don't want to reply to this thread anymore as your input hasn't been helpful so far.
  • You say you were looking into renting it out or getting housemates 'but the rent wouldnt cover the mortgage', how can you do that if you have no working bathroom or kitchen?

You are in negative equity, your house is almost derelict despite you earning a good wage. Your other posts speak about how you suffer from depression. It appears your situation is untenable and the government is not there to bail people out when they have earned a good wage yet failed to secure a warm secure roof over their head because of whatever reasons you have been through.
How would bankruptcy make it worse? Can it get worse than what you describe?
I think I've already stated I can't rent it out, and even if I could the rent wouldn't cover the mortgage. A comfortable person with a closed mind criticising those less fortunate whom they cannot relate, could make it worse than I describe.

Then sell it at a loss and work out a repayment with the bank. If its in negative equity, continuing to throw all of your salary and more at it is not going to help the situation, especially if you cant afford to keep it fixed up and dont have a working bathroom or kitchen.

You are going to make yourself physically ill living like this, as well as more mentally ill. Im not trying to just rag on at you but I dont see how you are going to get out of this, even if you could get SMI it would barely be a dent in this. Even if you did qualify for UC it would barely be a dent.

I’ve been reading your posts & didn’t want to just read & run.
You really sound like you are going through a hard time at the moment & not even managing to get enough together for the bare essentials.

If you can’t sell your property then do you have any friends/family who could help you with a few basic repairs? Maybe you haven’t told anyone close to you how you are living, but if I knew a friend or family member was struggling I would want to help them. This doesn’t need to be financial help as such, but you might know someone handy who can sort out some basic repairs for you?

If food is a struggle could you reach out to a food bank? I’m not sure what forms you need but I have known colleagues who have had a couple of bad months & have managed to get help from local food banks even though they aren’t on benefits.

It’s sad to think you don’t have any heat or a working bathroom. That’s not a way to live as you already know.

You say your house isn’t selling but they always sell for the right price, at least that is what estate agents would have you believe!
I know you are struggling to lower the price but you are in control of selling it for whatever you want. Yes, you are likely to end up with less than you paid for it, but you need to work out what this would mean for you in the long term. Will taking a lower price now mean you can have a fresh start sooner rather than later?
I wish you well, & hope you get something sorted soon.

Are you actually claiming Universal Credit or any other benefits?
You intimate that you are still earning a decent wage, as such unless you have a partner and kids etc, I can't see how you could tap into SMI support anyway, as potentially on your decent wage, you would not be eligible for any benefits.
