My boiler is beyond economical repair !! :(
Does anyone have any advice regarding purchasing/installations of a new one? I hopefully get £750 from my boiler cover insurance towards a new one.
Thanks in advance

That £750 you may get may have to go towards a new boiler from who ever is the insurance company.
To get that money you will/may have to use whatever the insurance company contractor is and they will do the pricing.
British Gas do the same thing and you have to use them to do the install on replacement boiler to get the money.
You will need to look at the T&C's of the insurance to check if you are covered and some clauses are you have to of had the boiler serviced every year and inhibitor in the system and that there was no sludge in the pipes as all these 3 things may mean the insurance company can/will wiggle out of paying out.

My boiler was beyond economic repair 15 years ago. I fixed it with a roll of PTFE tape costing 99p from B&Q. I would go to Screwfix now where it is only 29p.

My boiler needed replacing 3 years ago, got it done for £2300. That included replacing two radiators and re routing some piping and adding a fancy control/stat unit.
2 years ago my son had the same boiler as me installed, a straight swap no other work £1800.
We both had the same engineer do the work, a local one man outfit, he also carries out the services.
Compared to a workmate a while ago and more recently a neighbour they both wanted a new boiler. British Gas convinced the workmate he needed a complete new system installing at a cost of £5600 whilst the neighbours  were quoted from a larger heating installation firm that all the system needed replacing too, that came to nearly £4k.
My heating system (pipes) have been in place now for 35+ years all I've had replaced are the radiators over that time and that was for cosmetic appearance rather than them becoming unserviceable.
So be careful who you choose to carry out the replacement boiler, I'd go local tradesmen if you can find one reliable. I found mine on the local council trust a trader type website, very happy. Get more than one quote and ask why if you feel they are getting to have more than you need changed.

£750 sounds like what Scottish Power offered (via Domestic & General) . If you're with them then the £750 doesn't need to be used on the one they suggest to go with. You can choose someone else and then claim the £750 back from them.

I replaced my boiler last year with an Intergas model because the design seemed a lot better thought out than other makes, and they had a lot of recommendations from heating engineers who had fitted them to their own houses. Intergas have a model that comes with the receiver to connect directly to certain Honeywell wireless thermostats, which is worth knowing if you have such a thermostat or want one.

Make sure that your contract with the installer specifies that they are responsible for meeting all the manufacturers requirements for the warranty, and for notifying building control.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

I think this is very sound advice.  I got a new Worcester Bosch boiler fitted 2 years ago and the locally accredited WB heating engineer/plumber was indeed very local AND was the lowest cost as well compared to the nationals.  I did get 3 local quotes and the one I went with beat the price of the same boiler fiited by BOXT (fiited by engineers from goodness knows where) and miles better than the likes of BG/SSE etc.  I'd be very wary of the £750 offer if you can only offset it for an installation carried out by the firm you had the boiler cover insurance with!   If you have the choice as to how to use the £750 then go with an accredited engineer and try to get a brand which has a decent warranty length.  Mine has a 10 year parts and labour warranty as it was fitted by an accredited heating plumber/engineer and I just pay for a yearly service of circa £60 to maintain the terms of this warranty.  It cost £1750 including all in although it was a reasonably straight swop with a liitle additional pipework connecting the boiler to the water supply   Some people think other boiler brands are more reliable/better - all you can do is do your own research as to boiler reliability and longevity.

    Mine too Worcester Bosch.
The guy who fitted them has properties himself, all fitted with this make. He also fits another brand, can't remember which, both he's says causes him minimal hassle re  breakdowns. He'd rather be fitting them than spending time repairing them.

Viessmann may be the other one, had one fitted recently and very happy so far. 5 year warranty as standard, extendable up to 12 years if you want.
As a side note, it will be a cold day in hell before I'd ever have another Vaillant boiler installed. The heat exchanger design leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to long term use...

Make sure the installer is on the manufacturers list of approved contractors as otherwise you may not have a warranty.
