Order Declined money not returned

I was just wondering, I had a personal credit account with Very a few years ago, due to unforeseen circumstances and severe financial difficulties I fell behind on payments and could no longer pay it. The debt was bought by Lowell whom I now have a payment plan in place with to clear the balance. However, just tonight I was trying to order something from Very and obviously it said I had to log into my account, so I did - which still shows I’m in severe arrears - however, I was actually placing this order and paying with cash. As due to arrears I cannot use the personal account. The funds have left my bank and when I checked on the status of my order, very have placed the status as declined, however my money has not been returned to my account.

Am I correct in thinking they should refund me my cash I paid for the order as the debt with them is being paid with Lowell who bought the debt from them so technically they have no right to keep my money from my attempted cash order?

please help?!!

If you ordered tonight, it's very unlikely the money has left your account already. More likely it is a pending transaction that will never be requested.
  • Your pending balance will return to normal in 3-5 working days.
Perhaps it was not the best shop to choose to shop from?

One has to ask though, why are you using Very? They are overpriced, the reason that people are usually willing to pay that extra mark-up is because they offer credit, but you will almost always pay considerably more as an item price with Very than you would with Amazon, John Lewis, Argos, B&Q etc.

To me Very are not much different to BrightHouse - just with better PR/advertising. They're a supplier of last-resort.
