Could someone please tell me if i can claim back the higher rate of Tax paid on Motorhome. Bought 31.01.20 and the law changed back to is being 265 from the £1k+ it had been wrongly hiked to from sept 19 to March 20? They've admitted they shouldn't have hiked it up so can we claim it back? or am i being optimistic?

Write to DVLA and ask for your £120 back.

If they say no, how much time, effort, and blood pressure do you want to devote to chasing it?

Of course, the other way of looking at it is that you were happy to buy the vehicle believing the correct tax rate was £1k, so you're actually getting a £735/year bonus! You should be thinking them.

I think the OP is saying that they paid £1,000+ tax in Jan whereas from March it should only have been £265 so are they owed a refund.

I think yes, but contact the DVLA and ask

And they could have SORNed it then re-taxed it at the lower rate in March, so their loss is two months difference. £735 / 6 = £122.50
