Travel Insurance cover just for covid-19

Hello.
Is it possible to buy travel insurance just to cover covid-19?  We brought our insurance before covid-19 so want to be covered for it if we manage to get to USA this year.

I have never seen such a policy and I doubt one exists, the whole basis of insurance is to spread risk both amongst as many buyers as possible and also amongst the possible claims. You might want to talk to an insurance broker but frankly bearing in mind the state of Covid in the US right now, never mind all the other political shenanigans, as an insurer I wouldn't touch it with a very long bargepole

I’ve seen it from allied. It is designed to be an add on to an existing policy, though you can take it out on its own. Generally covers getting covid and having to extend your stay abroad. Comes from allied insurance. Eg here is their policy details for the Maldives:

Does it cover for medical expenses relating to Covid though? That's going to costa lotta.
Also extended stay of any family members who would have to isolate or you'd need to be with you.
I had it without hospitalisation, 3-4 weeks of coughing and it took 6 weeks to get back to full fitness.

We have Nationwide’s FlexPlus insurance, but even though we obviously can’t travel at present, I’ve been trying to make sense of their Covid19 cover.  They have a big list of faq’s, but one that isn’t there is a fairly likely occurrence imo.  If a travelling companion (not on your policy) gets covid and we are forced to abandon the holiday mid-trip (as we would probably want to), are we covered?  Reading the policy I think probably not, which if true, is ridiculous really, as insurance is supposed to be for unforeseen events.  Has anyone had an experience similar to this?

If you bought the insurance before Covid whats the problem?

What do you mean "to cover covid"? In case you get the infection and cannot travel? In case you travel and catch it whilst in the USA? If the USA keep their borders closed and so you cannot travel?
  • If we catch it when we are in the USA and need treatment.  I know we are ok if the boarders close before we go.

If a travel companion gets covid when abroad, then there is no way they can get on a plane to come home! They are stuck where they are until at least 10/ 14 days from when they first had symptoms.

Get a very good full policy for the U.S - treatment costs a fortune.
  • We are looking at £10,000,000 cover 🙂
