    Also in BBC, I am still unsure if this proposal would apply some benefit retrospectively to current flat leaseholders?

    Surely a "revolution" would be actually getting rid of it as a system of tenure for residential property, rather than just tinkering around the fringes?

    The problem with applying anything like the right to apply for a 999 year lease with no ground rent.  Service charges will just go up to make them more profitable (I know these are meant to be accountable).
    Then if you backdate the right, how do you compensate the potentially unscrupulous companies who own the leases?  Leasehold properties are (due to the issues) often cheaper then freehold properties, so the leasehold gets the bonus as well there.  It will take forever to disentangle the past, but great for the future.
