problem with used car from a dealer

Hi I bought a car from a dealer, second day I noticed that the timing chain is noisy at start, had the car diagnosed by 2 garages and with the diagnostics I contacted the dealer and let them know about the problem. They said that will replace the chain for me. As the car was bought before Christmas dealer said that will take it after new year. After new year I contacted them and they say that they ordered the parts and waiting for them and when they have them to drop the car to be fixed. But looks to me a bit strange, why they did not ordered the parts before the new year? Looks to me that they try to delay so the 30 days in witch I can reject and return the car to pass. My question is I know that when the dealer takes the car the 30 day period is on stop, and will continue after you take the car back repaired, but if I only have an email saying that they will " sort the noise" and they ordered the parts, can that be considered that they have agreed to have it repaired and the 30 days period comes to a stop on date of the email?

Drop an Email or letter to the dealer to create a paper trail, with this done your 30 day window to reject the car is preseved
  • I did email the dealer saying about the problem and they replied back saying will fix it, so I understand that from the date when they replied the 30 days period is suspended until they email back saying is fixed?
  • I would seriously consider contact regarding request to refuse the car. Just to have that option available to you in your time scale. If you have a gut feeling of being potentially messed about then go with it. Bit concerning having a car with cam chain faults. I would also request to see the vehicle pre-sale inspection to see if anything was mentioned by the mechanic that wasn’t rectified before sale. Not all sales departments allow the work to be carried out that technicians advise on because it takes always from the sales profits. Hope this helps
