As soon as we had a proposed completion date I started transferring the money. Originally I was going to transfer by Chaps but once my solicitor said they were happy for me to do it in instalments it was a no brainer.
  • I messaged at 7pm on New Years Eve if I could raise my bank transfer limit in order to pay for a property.   If I hadn't have started drinking at Mutton Geoff's party, I could have done it that very evening by explaining the reason for purchase and sending them a photo of me with my photo ID.   🥂

Love the ref to Mutton Geoff's party, you nutter!!

Thank you all, I'm over anxious about this.  I'll assume it took many days to do your transfers Caramac, I'll just make sure I start two weeks before the date to make sure it's all there in time. Thank you.
Transfer half the money to TSB now. Then you can transfer £25k from both TSB and HSBC each day (total £50k per day).

In the meantime, I found £1.78 in loose change down the back of the sofa where you were sitting. I intended to give it back to you but bought Bitcoin instead. It's now worth £1,134,551.78. Would you like me to CHAPS or BACS it to you?

I've just phoned HSBC and after holding on for 40 minutes finally managed to speak to someone.   I explained I hope to exchange/complete in early February and would like to organise a CHAPS payment, they said I'd have to go into a bank branch with ID.

I'm a fearful bad weather driver and my nearest HSBC is now 40 minutes away.  I do have a TSB account, and there is a TSB bank in my local village.  I'd prefer to transfer my funds to the TSB as it's more convenient, will it matter that when I showed my 'proof of funds' the money was in HSBC?
Hmmm. Is it worth phoning HSBC again and seeing if a different agent says different? When we bought (was just over a year ago now), we were able to order a CHAPS over the phone. It's the High Value Payments Team you want to speak to.

We did have to answer a lot of questions, and they did say that if we answered a single question incorrectly then we'd no longer be able to do it by phone and would have to go into branch with ID. Fortunately we passed the exam but it was a slightly stressful phone call!!

They may have changed the system since we bought but I'd be surprised if there's simply no option to order by phone any more... Especially at the moment!

Ah, I wondered where that'd gone!
