Yes, thanks for that, you can of course do it in reverse order :)
  • Just a thought,

The wifi adapter will have two antennas connected to it (thin cables usually tacked up behind the display panel). The mini-coaxial antenna connectors can easily become dislodged. If you are happy to dismantle the laptop, you can probably check that they often become disconnected and WiFi performance suffers as a result. Of course, once you know how to take the laptop apart and put it back together, you could, if you need to, replace the Wireless mini PCI-e card. It would take some patience, but it if your X550C is anything like the X550, there is a photographic how to here: https://www.empowerlaptop.com/how-to-disassemble-asus-x550-series/. There are most likely video guides on YouTube too.

If you are going to put an SSD upgrade into the laptop to extend its useful life, it is probably a good idea to further dismantle it so you can remove all the dust with a can of compressed air.

It is a task that, if you are patient and careful, is quite doable. Usually I make sure I've got a large work area to do it, and imagine an outline of the laptop right next to where I'm dismantling/reassembling. I'll lay the screws out in the imaginary outline in the same place they were taken from, so it serves as a reference as to where the screws go when they are replaced.

You will need a precision screwdriver set and a set of spudgers before attempting this.

A dream is not reality, but who's to say which is which?
