Surely he wouldn't be being sent to read a smart meter? Isn't that part of the point of them?poppy12345 said:
Some people may also have smart meters, so entering the home to read the meters wouldn't be needed. I have them.Apintplease said:
Most meters are surely outside nowadays?
I was told that they need to be read just once a year, although not sure why. That wasn't the reason why i said that anyway. My reason for saying this is because there's likely not as many people needing to have their meters read now, like there used to be.

Ah yes I googled it's every two years. I didn't realise. But that doesn't help him when it is his job to do so there must be enough to read to keep him and others employed.poppy12345 said:HampshireH said:

Sounds like he will need to carry on or take unpaid leave in agreement with his employer (which they won't be happy with)

Thousands of smart meters were installed when the installer knew the mobile signal was too weak to enable them to work.poppy12345 said:HampshireH said:

Mine has this problem (SMETS2), due to the location in the property it can not get a signal, in the same place my mobile signal barely connects and has no data service. The energy providers can offer no solution, so I continue to submit my meter readings online, which for them is probably just as convenient as via the smart meter.Jeremy535897 said:

Surely not that manyThe_Fat_Controller said:@Apintplease, outside meters for newer builds but there are millions of older homes with inside meters !
My last house built in 1932 had the meters outside
Council house I grew up in in the 60's and 70's - the meters were inside until mid 70s when the natural gas came in and the council used the time to upgrade the electrics
I still stand by my post that the person in question has to take control of the situation himself and to make his job as safe as he can by using sanitiser, masks and wipes and give the receipt to the employer if they are not supplying as matter of course. PPE has to be supplied by the employer when required to undertake work on their behalf.

All the houses where I live were built in the 30s and have internal meters apart from a few that have, at some time, had them replaced and repositioned outside.Apintplease said:

I would think he has his post codes to cover, not the whole country

I was only commenting on the implication in your post that 1930s houses would have external meters.Apintplease said:
