AA gold cover car dealer extension warranty refusing to pay for diagnostics.
The warranty is within its 2 year's life. I was awoken to my car horn blaring in the middle of the night. The battery was disconnected and I phoned the AA for which break-down cover was included. The serviceman reconnected battery finding the horn had ceased, then took out the fuse. I told AA warranty service who told me which garage to use and sent a claim form via email. I took it in for diagnostics and was told that they could not find a fault and AA had refused to pay for it. It cost me £70. There was a £10 fee included for 'referral'. Can they do this? What was the point of having a warranty?

What does the warranty say about diagnostics?0
-
It says that a reasonable fee for diagnostics will be paid as part of a claim.0

So something like, Diagnosis once a claim has been agreed? As it stands no have no claim.1

The point of having a warranty is to pay to fix faults. No fault was found. There is no claim.

"Reasonable diagnostic charges will be included where this forms part of a valid claim".
Ridiculous as it had to be done to find a fault.0 -
And the fault was?Mati said:"Reasonable diagnostic charges will be included where this forms part of a valid claim".

I am pretty sure from the OPs perspective there was a fault albeit intermittent.AdrianC said:The point of having a warranty is to pay to fix faults. No fault was found. There is no claim.
It could easily be the case that the diagnoser does not have sufficient skill to find the fault.
(I encountered this many times after repairing 2cvs when they had been taken to normal garages who did not have a clue)

I also feel that the garage owner should have told me that it could be a one off and to wait till it happened again before trying diagnostics.0

Not all car faults leave a footprint and not all diagnostic kit is capable of reading every cars considerable systems. I would keep it simple and contact the warranty company with your complaint. There will be a paper trail of an independent "expert" examining the vehicle. discovering and recording a fault and recommending the course of action you took. Unless the AA want everyone to join AutoAid, they should back you up.1
