No Serial No. on Gas Meter
I transferred to another energy supplier last October and have been patiently waiting for my credit of £110.10 to be refunded. In December, having heard nothing, I chased them, and to keep a long story short, they won't refund me until I give them my Gas Meter Serial No. They have apparently only got part of it. Unfortunately there is no Serial No. on my meter. There is a line of printing that is so small that it is illegible even with a magnifying glass! This was a new meter fitted some 20 years ago by BG. I have since changed suppliers several times and this issue hasn't been raised before. I have looked on lots of websites but can't find any help whatsoever. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I track it down?

Post a photo here or check an older bill.0

Look at any old bills and you should see the Meter Serial Number. It is listed on all my old bills (and is the same from supplier to supplier).1

I have been bill free for years so have no paper bills. The previous supplier who I was with for about 7 years was happy with the shortened serial no. which is shown on all their bills. The current meter was fitted in 1993 so BG will no longer have details. The only possible serial no. is in such tiny print that it is unreadable even with a magnifying glass but I doubt it is the serial no. as the print goes all the way round the name of the manufacturer. Looks like I am stuck with a load of hassle getting my refund back. Very annoyed as OVO were happy to take me on without a full serial no.0

You might have no paper bills but you will have an online bill.
The meter serial number will be on all those.

Greyteam All my online bills have the shortened serial no. not the full number.0

Are you sure BG won't have the details, if you give them the Meter Point Reference number, they may be able to track it down.LBM: Dec 2012 - Debt £38,180/ Now £0.

Thanks Muhren I will try that.0

Name the supplier who requires confirmation of the meter number before paying out a credit - It has the smell of a company in trouble who are desperate to hang onto the cashThey were quite happy with the meter No when you Switched to them and whilst you were paying them money, and anyway meters get changed all the time - It's the MPRN, ( Meter Point Registration Number ), that is the fixed bedrock of the gas supply to your home0

Thanks dogshome it is OVO. I am waiting for their complaints department to ring me back - within 5 days i.e. Monday at the latest so I will give them the MPRN then. If that doesn't make them change their stance, I will going to CAB to see what I can do next.0
