Warm Home Discount and changing supplier
Options
I have just received the Warm Home Discount of £140 for the first time as I come into the Broader Group with my current supplier. The credit was placed on my account a couple of days ago. My contract with them runs out on 20th February.
It would benefit me to change suppliers but the new one I'm thinking about doesn't offer Warm Home Discount.
If I change to the new company does that affect the payment I've just received? Would I have to repay it?
If I stay with my current company even at the higher rates for gas and electricity the £140 more than covers the difference so I effectively would still be better off.

You need to look on your current suppliers T&C's about this.
I've just been going through whether it's worth changing to one that offers WHD to get the discount, we qualify, although we would be switching to get the discount and not necessarily be successful. If it isn't applied we would have switched just basically to pay more for our energy as we couldn't find a cheaper tariff than we are paying.
We've stuck with our current supplier for now.1 -

We've stuck with our current supplier for now.I can't see anything in their Ts and Cs about WHD.One thing is that with my current supplier I'm on a fixed price contract and renewing with them would also be a fixed price, but the other supplier I was considering is a variable price so that's a bit of a gamble any way.It might be easier all round to just stick with my current supplier on a new fixed price contract.0 -
This is supposed to be the last year of the scheme so if you swap now it wouldn’t make a difference they won’t take it back. However they are considering possibly extending it for one year1

Currently with So Energy. Their new fixed price contract a couple of days ago (Bluebell) was a bit more expensive than my current prices. Standing charge is the same at 22.05p per day for each fuel. Electricity increase from current 14.7p to 17.62p per kwh and gas increase from current 2.4p to 2.92p per kwh. I was looking at Igloo, their daily standing charge is 26.075p so a bit higher, but fuel prices a bit lower with electricity 15.168p and gas 2.567p but it's variable not fixed price. Also Igloo not part of the WHD scheme.

Avro look pretty good for me currently, not a great deal in it but certainly lower standing charges, WHD too.. I work out all the figures separately and multiply by whatever my usage is per year, do the same with SC, easier X by 365 but some tally that differently, the finer details in their tariffs.0 -

Yes, I keep a spreadsheet of my monthly usage year on year and work mine out from that, the "average use" figures I don't find helpful, much prefer to work out my actual cost with each individual supplier to find the best deal.

What I do when changing suppliers is take the WHD off the projection of the new supplier and the one I intend to leave usage totals. When I was with BG and moved to OFM more than compensated for the £140 as I would be paying less than with the WHD applied but they quickly raised prices so I left them to move to Bulb who gave a WHD, Bulb has raised their prices quite a lot in the last 12 months. around 30%, so I am leaving them for Avro and assuming the WHD gets another year I will apply for it.
I do a weekly energy usage for my gas and electric so I know exactly how much I use although the gas I have to do some working out to find how many kWh I use.Someone please tell me what money is1
