Can your employer use your holidays for corona leave?

  • To get the more reliable test you need to have symptoms.  Living with someone with symptoms does not qualify you for one of these tests, it has to be that you yourself have symptoms. 
    But living with someone who has symptoms means you (and they) have to self-isolate.
    This is what I'm asking.
    But then you get that Katrina over there saying things like "if you have symptoms get a bloody test".
    Well i bloody well don't have bloody symptoms so i don't bloody well need a test do I.
    Completely missing my question because they want to paint me as the COVID originator and 1-man-army spreader. Making false accusations such as I have no first hand evidence. Absolute nonsense.

    My understanding, rightly or wrongly, was that you can only get a test if you have symptoms and that is it. If you don't have symptoms then you wont get a test.
    Some people who i work with are being told to go for a test. They feel fine and they have no symptoms, they just share a workspace with someone who has tested positive that's all.
    Yet it's said here in this thread that even if my partner tests positive, I have no right to a test until i show symptoms (but i must isolate) ... and i live with that person, not just work roughly near them.
    So what i am wondering is about if they were to ever come to me and say go for a test, just because someone i worked with tested positive, even when I myself may feel fine with no symptoms.
    And no, when I have been told by those I know who've had it that the test is more invasive than I thought it was going to be then no, I don't want a test. If i have symptoms then that's a little different but if i feel perfectly fine and don't have a single symptom then no, I don't want to go for a test just because someone wants me to.

    Part 2 of that question would be say you do have symptoms but also don't want or wont have a test - rather than have your leave as sick, can your employer deduct this leave from your annual holidays?
    Yeah I did ‘bloody’ say that because you asked this stupid question in your original post. Don’t act as if I’m the one making stuff up... that’s you!

    Those should have been identified as a close contact in the workplace contacted by test and trace, they should be isolating.

    Is your workplace suppressing contact information.

    if it is report them.

    if they ask you to take a test because you have been a close contact  go into isolation.

    Also report them if it is telling people to lie to get a test without symptoms.
  • Employers are having a really tough time of it also, it makes sense for the team to use up their holidays, then everyone is at work when things return to normal.
    In normal times employers are flexible, but everything now needs to be done to help companies recover.
    Travel lover, family man and some other stuff..
  • getmore4less - whether they are suppressing I formation or not I don't know. Despite what some bloody members bloody think I onky comment about what I do know and if I don't know for sure then I say so. 

    I do know that when someone got covid a while ago, a memo was put out to say someone in the company had it and the company were satisfied that nobody had come in to prolonged contact with that person. 
    I and everyone else knew that was absolute nonsense. At the time we believed the time frame was 15mins. It may or may not be different now. They had easily hit 15mins with certain people in a confined office space. These people weren't happy about it but said they felt pressured to stay quiet and carry on for their jobs sake. 

    I asked this person if track and trace had been in touch with them and they said no, nobody had. 
    Comparing this to some family members I know got it and did everything right, they got contacted and asked questions. 

    I have directly been asked to do things myself that would've at time put me at a risk of getting covid. I refused as I won't be pressured the way some others will. Management weren't happy and just walked off shaking their head. 

    Not all employers are devil's but they're not all saints either.
