How will JD Sports process my refund?

First of all, apologies if this is in the wrong section.  I looked around the forum and saw other refund questions posted here, so hopefully it's the right place.  Anyway...

I was given a gift card to JD Sports as a gift, and purchased a jacket last week from the online store.  It arrived earlier today but was far too small, so I have had to return it.  Unfortunately it seems they are not exchanging items at the moment due to Coronavirus, and are only refunding.  I'd have preferred to just exchange the jacket for a bigger size, but will have to make do with the refund instead.  My issue now though is how exactly will they process my refund?  Will I get a new gift card or will it be refunded to the original buyer's method of payment?  There was absolutely no information about any of this on their website, and having waited in a queue for 2 hours earlier to speak to a customer service person, I was eventually cut off and told to "try again at a later date".

Does anybody have any idea as to what kind of refund I will receive and WHERE the refund will be allocated?  The issue also is that I don't know if the person who bought the gift card for me used cash or their card, and as all of the stores are closed at the moment it'll be impossible to receive a cash refund as there's no way of going into one of their stores.

Thanks for any help, it's much appreciated.

  • Assuming that it was what they call an eGift card:
Returning an item purchased with an eGift card
      • If you purchase goods online (in full) using an eGift card, after your item has been returned via post, your refund will be credited to a new eGift card and not by any other means, including cash or bank transfers. See our Returns Policy for more information on returns.
      • If you purchase goods online in excess of the value of the eGift card and pay (in part) using an eGift card and pay the extra (in part) using another payment method, then after your item has been returned via post, the amount you paid via the eGift card will be credited to a new eGift card and not by any other means, including cash or bank transfers. The amount you paid using another payment method will be credited using that same payment method.
      • All transactions on the JD Website are subject to various security checks, including E-Gift Cards. E-Gift cards are normally delivered within 60 minutes if immediate delivery is selected at checkout, however in certain circumstances this time will vary ( please allow up to 12 hours ) to allow us to complete all security checks.

Thank you for finding that information for me, that's great.  It wasn't an eGift card though, it was just a normal physical gift card.  You can see the two different ones here - https://www.jdsports.co.uk/gift-cards (Mine is the one on the right hand side).
That being said though, I'd assume the same goes for normal gift cards?  Then again, I'm not sure how they'd do it as it'd either mean sending me a new physical gift card in the post or refunding the balance on to my gift card.  I'd be happy with an eGift card to be honest, but not sure what their method is.
It's a shame there's no information I could find on their site though.  Then again, you found the above information quite easily so if there's any way you could find out what happens with physical gift cards and not eGift cards it'd be massively appreciated.

    Thank you anyway though.

I don't think I've ever encountered a retailer which didn't refund gift card purchases to a gift card. They would be crazy to refund to the original method of purchase - the whole point of gift cards is that they're keeping your money!
  • Why does Covid stop them changing sizes?  If they're giving a refund they must be accepting returns, so why can't they just send out the right size?  Is that different from the OP simply buying the right size on the refunded gift card?

Or am I being really thick?

Under the Returns section, it says you cant do an exchange by post, doesnt mention its covid related. Can't see why you cant request an exchange.
  • Ah.  I was relying on what the OP said...

....  Unfortunately it seems they are not exchanging items at the moment due to Coronavirus, and are only refunding. ...
