Motor Insurance NCD
Moved back to the UK from Belgium after 39 years. I have NCD declaration from my car insurance, one from the my broker in Belgium which states that I have not had a claim since I started with them in the 1980's and the other from the Belgian insurance company that I handled my car insurance since 2016 stating the same.
Churchill Insurance provided me with car insurance in the UK they stated that as the NCD was from abroad they could not accept the NCD and I had to pay a full premium as if I were a new driver. This surely cannot be right.....

I'm tempted to say that it's probably another of the less realised downsides of Brexit, but I don't think that UK insurers have ever been obliged to recognise NCD's earned under a foreign-issued policy? No free lunch, and no free laptop

It's not (for once) another downside of Brexit.
Foreign NCB has never been recognised. You might persuade an insurer to give you an introductory discount.
At least your base premium before discount would have reflected the fact that you'd had a licence for many years.0 -
If you are still within your cancellation period, (you may have to pay an admin fee as well as an amount for the time that cover has been provided), you could get quotes from other insurers.
I know that Aviva will accept NCD from many overseas policies and I'm sure that there are plenty of other insurers who will do the same.1 -
Its entirely a business decision for the individual insurance companies whether they will give you any NCD or accept any NCD from another insurer. They are under no obligation to do either, it depends how much they want your business.0
