I've never had any problems whatsoever with Hermes either. In fact I've never had any real problems with any of the courier/delivery services. Even with a missing parcel once, Royal Mail paid compensation promptly when issued with proof of posting
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
  • UPS tops, will get your parcel there when they say they will.  DPD are the sort who will park on the pavement or cut you up if you are driving.  Royal Mail patchy, takes days to get something across London but a 2nd class item gets to Edinburgh the following day!  Hermes are terrible, the sort who would throw your carriage clock over the fence.  Ran a label off at home to find it wouldn't be accepted at the drop-off.  Had to buy more post and got back just 60p out of £4.75 (with a lot of fighting).  Wouldn't touch again with a bargepole.

My business sent a couple of hundred parcels in the run up to Christmas, mostly through DHL. They had major problems with their Gloucester (Tewkesbury) depot which caused significant problems, including severe delays, one lost and one mis-delivered parcel, and a lot of pain for us trying to chase parcels and get the issues resolved. Across the rest if the UK they were mostly OK, some minor delays which were to be expected really, however if the delivery failed or was not even attempted, they would routinely ignore customers' attempting to reschedule it on their online system, which again came back to us to chase with their customer service.

We sent a handful through Parcelforce and DPD Local - no problems at all - and two through Hermes, who managed to break one (our only ever breakage).

We wouldn't use Hermes again, at the moment we're still using DHL, but due to their poor customer service when deliveries need rescheduling, we're looking into trialling another courier, probably DPD Local.

I was going to say that we, too, had been lucky with our courier deliveries.  Until yesterday.

Mr S had ordered some heavy duty garage shelving and a workbench.  It turned up, all palletted together, by means of a single man in a white van.  On arrival (in heavy snow) he announced that he could only do a driveway or kerbside delivery, because of the weight.  Driveway would have been fine, as the pallet was well wrapped, but he just dragged it out onto the pavement (no lifting gear on the van) and drove off.

We then had to dismantle the package and move the contents bit by bit before someone tripped over it in the dark.

We've used this company before, and their products are very good - but this package was far too heavy for a one man delivery.

The only problem with a delivery service that I have experienced is with Hermes. Cannot recomend them to anyone , it is very hit and miss. DPD very good as are Royal Mail so why use a bad 'un?
