Vauxhall astra

Hi
I have a 2017 astra elite and sometimes when I take my key it the radio doesn't turn off as it should and I can't lock the car. I have to fiddle around with it in the ignition until it registers the key is no longer in.
I'm not sure on what needs to be done or any 'cheap fixes'
Cheers

IT Needs to go to vauxhall dealer for diagnostics. not sure how much they charge for that, but I'm sure it doesn't fall into the 'cheap fixes' category.

Are you really not sure what needs to be done?  It needs to be repaired.  Take it to a garage.

I had just this on an an older meriva. If yours is the same there's a soleniod switch in the ignition barrel that gets sticky. Sorted by squirting a generous application of WD40 down the barrel and putting the key in and out a few times. You notice it's fixed as the "click" of the switch returns when removing the key.

Please don't use WD40. Horrible stuff.

Try some electrical switch cleaner. Stuff that won't leave a sticky residue that'll just clag it up even quicker...

Are you saying WD40 leaves a sticky residue?

    Yes, because it does.
  • Wd40 strips grease out of locks hence no it's not really suitable , silicon spray is much more suitable and it's certainly worth a try first

Another who agrees with not using WD40.

Try using graphite powder.  You will be amazed what a difference it can make.  Something like this:
Professional 60ml Graphite Powder Lubricant for Safety Lock Cylinder Car Padlock | eBay

That’s not an unreasonable suggestion but bear in mind Er’indoors will bend your ears for a fortnight if any of that stuff transfers from your cars keys onto her clothing. Graphite is a sod to shift.  :D
