Purchasing land

Hi
I bought my property back in 2018. I am now looking to extend my back garden and take some of the land at the rear of my garden. I spoke with the council and they said the land didn’t belong to them. I then looked into it and purchased plans from the land register. On this it states that the company that built the estate owned the land, however this company are now dormant. I believe they went into liquidation a number of years ago. Does anyone know how I go about taking/purchasing the land? I’m assuming that if I wanted the deeds updated I would need to contact a solicitor, which would probably cost a fair amount!
Thanks
Jordan
