Local Search Delays

Our solicitors decided to outsource the local authority searches to a private firm, the private firm have given us a date of September 2021 for these to be returned.
The local council have a current turnaround of 15 days for their official searches.
Our solicitor is claiming that they didn't need to inform us anywhere that they would be using a third party to conduct these searches and that if we want quicker results then it is us that would be charged for either the official local authority searches or no search indemnity insurance.
Given that our mortgage offer expires in May, the estimate of the private search firm is clearly useless.
Does anyone have any advice on where we stand? We were of the opinion that the solicitors should be shouldering the extra cost since they've chosen to go with that particular private search firm that is of no use.
Thanks
