Here we go.  To my untrained eye, it looked fantastic with just cosmetic work needing doing.  @AdrianC looked at it and instantly saw all the faults.  My bad.   Anyway, good luck to whoever gets it.  The photos didn't show the mini swimming pool in the basement either!

"All the faults"? Oh, no. Just enough to say "run away"... I'm sure a good hard look would find a LOT more... <grin>

Meanwhile, can anybody explain the benefit of that "videoette" to me? It's just a zoomy-in-out slideshow of the same bloody pictures. Is it really just a sop to people who zero attention span for stationary images?

The investor obviously saw a big enough return if they offered over asking but they will have the knowledge & skills to get it looking great a lot cheaper and easier than yourself

    Good luck in your search

Yeah, there are people round here who have huge portfolios of properties.  I am sure if they do this on a regular basis, they will have people who will do work for them cheaply but yeah, good for them.

Just got an email from the EA today.  Someone had put in an offer of £10K more than the asking price.  She wanted to know if I wanted to trump that.  It's a NO from me.  Good luck to whoever has offered that much.

Thanks all for your help and advice.
Thanks for the update; not everyone who asks questions lets us know the outcome, so very nice of you to close it down!

And with your blend of "can- do gung-ho" attitude but commonsense willingness to ask basic questions, listen and do research, I'm sure you will eventually buy something suitable and good value.

I was much more naive and ill-informed when I bought my 1st wreck - in the  mid1970's, 25 years before the internwebby even existed in its present form, let alone the resources we take for granted.  We only got away with it because of luck, sweat and municipal munificence; 100% mortgages from the regional "Greater London Council" and "Home Improvement Grants" from the Local Authority.

Those days are are long gone but you'll get there.  Maybe with a bit less heavy duty demolition, plasterboarding, floorboard-laying, DIY kitchen fitting and decorating than we had to learn!  And we found that fate plays a part- most of our many purchases over the years have been down to happenstance or lucky finds.   Good luck and good Kharma.

Cynic that I am I wonder if that is true or whether the EA was just trying to flush out a higher offer from Mimi

Id say a makeover and rental .. I wouldn't renovate it to a good standard for personal living as it would require just too much cost especially without skills.

A builder who is a little light on work at the min could knock that out fairly quickly

@AlexMac - I always ask on here.  I just hope I don't get banned for the same questions again and again.  I've also a few "older" people I work with and ask them for their opinions too - there's one lady who buys, tarts up and sells every two years.  Had it not been for this forum and them, I would have offered £110K straight away and then regretted it but there you go.

@Scotbot - you are probably right.  I was looking through old emails and the "sales negotiator" who was emailing me re: my offer was the same lady who I dealt with 2 years ago on another property for which I offered close to £150K but that a much nicer, ready to move into 3 bedroomed property.  I will keep looking to see if SOLD STC appears on the link.

@babyblade41 - yeah but I was looking to move into this one, it would have just been too costly.

Thanks again all.  I will keep looking.  If it wasn't for Mum, I would move away from the area into something that is ready to move into but she won't move unless it's local and there is my dilemma!  There are others available in the immediate area but on 2 or 3 floors so those are no no's.
