Anyone seen any USB flash drives with write protection?

Options
As per the title, looking for a good quality branded USB flash drive 64GB? with a write protect switch.

My old one is too small these days, Google search finds Kanguru but that is not a name I have heard of until
now.  Anyone seen any SanDisk, Samsung or Toshiba etc?

Thanks

As a general rule this is provided by software.
Like this for example: https://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-Ultra-USB-Flash-Drive/dp/B00DQG9OZ2 - "Password-protects and encrypts private files with SanDisk SecureAccess software"

However you can add a registry entry to the computer that will achieve the same effect to all USB drives you connect.  I haven't tried this.

No, Samsung, Toshiba etc do not have such a product.

In terms of other manufacturers eg Kanguru, have a look at the reviews on eg Amazon and see if they meet your criteria for a product.

You could get a version which requires a key code to be entered to "unlock" it. DataSure are one of the big names in this arena but there are other options - even some which use fingerprint detection.

    amazon.co.uk/s?k=datasure+usb ... cut/paste as I can't post links yet.

Silly me, I should have added more info to the original post its to use with data recovery software and repair.

Its not about encrypting the data on the drive its more about protecting the drive from nasty malware.  Had that
happen many years ago. Thought it odd that my programs no longer fitted onto the drive, turned out something had
created a nice little boot loader which auto ran, luckily I didnt insert it whilst running Windows.

    Thanks

FWIW the DataSure-type devices don't encrypt the data (AFAIK) ... they merely write-lock the device until the key code is entered. :)

Easy!  Use 3.5” double density floppy disks,...they have a little ‘write protect switch’ in the corner.

The only downside is you’ll need 45,504 floppy disks to hold 64GB of data,...but apart from that it’s a winner.

    Or EZ2Boot https://www.easy2boot.com

That write protect switch on flash drives is old school, have not seen one in decades. You may be able to find a usb that take a full size sd card that makes the sd into a flash drive, because list time i checked - years ago -  they still had write protects

Thanks, I had thought of SD cards, I do have some full size adapters with the switch, had issues booting some
computers with that option though. They didnt like the SD card / USB adapter.

Bought some 64GB drives off Amazon, way cheaper than the Kanguru (1/4 the price).  Will see how long they last
and whether the size is correct, oddly the 64GB was cheaper than the 32GB version. Hoping they are not fake.

1st test write 64GB to them and make sure its not missing or corrupt.
