BonusBond card

Hi there.
I was given the opportunity of purchasing a BonusBond card through my work. The card expired in October but I didn’t realise. It has a balance of £100 on it which I really could use so I’ve contacted the company via email to see if they can extend the end date, which a few companies have been able to do because of Covid. However, they’re asking me to identify myself using a copy of my bank statement, my account number and sort code and my date of birth. They said it’s for ‘money laundering’ protection. I absolutely do not feel comfortable providing this information - has anyone else had something similar with this company or know a way I can get round this? TIA.

Well they want you to prove that you are the card holder and not some chancer.
If you want the £100, then you are going to have to supply the info they want.
Send copy of statement (will have sort & acc no on it). Black out anything you do not want them to see. (not name and address though)

As a aside. We used to get something like this. Always made a point of spending straight away. As many forgot & lost the money on the cards.

  • Let's just say someone found a bonusbond card in the street and found there was money on it but it had expired.
This might be one reason someone might not want to let them see private information - just saying.

OP if you have nothing to hide just do as they ask and you will get your money.

I understand what you are saying but this is a gift card, not a bank account that could have more serious implications if I lost it in the street.
I have nothing to hide; I want to make sure I’m not providing important personal information to chancers.
    Thanks.

Yes, I’m annoyed with myself for not having used it sooner.

Yet this is a company your employer is happy to allow you to purchase via them at a discount. Yet you are calling the company "Chancers" as they want you to prove who you are & are the rightful person who topped the card up.

If it was some random company contacting you, I would agree. But this is a company you willingly gave £100 too.

It is clear in their T/C

    >>5. REDEEMING YOUR CARD BALANCE You may redeem any available balance on your card within 6 years after this agreement has ended (see Expiry and Cancellation of Your Card), fees may apply. After this date, you are no longer entitled to these funds. If there are any transactions or charges still outstanding after you redeemed the balance on your card, we reserve the right to claim these back from you in the same way as if your card got into a negative balance. The Redemption Fee (see Fees and Charges), shall not apply where funds are requested to be redeemed: • Prior to any changes in these Terms and Conditions taking effect; • Within the first twelve (12) months after the date that this agreement ended. We can only transfer your available card balance into a bank account; subject to the satisfactory completion of the required money laundering, fraud and identification checks (of which you will be informed at the time). The requested balance will be returned to you without undue delay, in the currency of your card and minus any charges due (see Fees and Charges).<<

I hardly think the owners of BonusBonds are chancers.

You are perfectly at liberty to not send them the information and don't let anyone tell you that you are not.

You won't get the money of course.
