What small DFW things will you do this week 04/01/21?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation.  These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important 😀

  • Morning folks

I hope I haven't cross posted. Welcome to the first shiny new thread of the year!
Still slow improvements here. OH looking a lot better and felt up to doing some drumming yesterday. Slower improvements for me but my stomach has returned to some semblance of normality and we went to the allotment to drop off some large boxes and a box of compost trimmings. I'm scared that the house stinks and we don't know it (neither of us can smell anything atm)

The oven man should be coming today to put the new element in. In other house things, noticed a small leak by the cistern yesterday. On close inspection, the water infill inside the cistern sprays water all over the wall bolt and it has rusted away. The leak was caused during the cistern filling as the water was just dripping through the hole. Must get in touch with the LA to have it fixed - we haven't exactly had good luck with cisterns in this house and I'm not leaving anything to chance.

Other than that, need to join the morning call for work and then another day of flopping about no doubt. OH has decided to teach via skype today just to be in the safe side. He's out of his isolation but he'd obviously feel awful if he was unwittingly infectious and took it to work. Especially when it's not a big deal for him to move to skype.

Have a good day all and please keep safe. Given my experience, I wouldn't trust ANY indoor space so I would avoid it if possible.

  • Morning CLF thanks for starting us off. Gad to hear you and oh are on the mend. I've not long been up! And I went to bed at 7 last night!

I've got to make a trip in to town with madam today as she broke her glasses yesterday so hopefully they will be able to do a quick fix. Annoying! double annoying is madam needs new school shoes but clark's isn't open....

Other than that it's madam's half birthday today so I gave her a book and we have a birthday cake for later. Need to get out of the grump I've woken up in so I can celebrate her! Lots of game playing and laughter today then!

Will have a quick bath & tidy round

cooking jacket potatoes in the pc for tea  oh & I will have lo lamb, madam will have cheesey beans - she's gone vegetarian

I want to start on the painting. Finally finished the titchy bit of sanding yesterday and got all the supplies/equipment out of the garage

booked a tip slot for Friday so that gives me a few days to box up things that need to go

Need to get clothes/bags/lunches ready for the week ahead. I suspect though there will be a change of plan for schools in my area so that can all change today!

do a little sewing. Would like to make scrunchies and headband with the last scraps of fabric for my dress to make it a ero waste project  Might even make a little skirt for madam's doll

    Morning all :)
Thanks for starting the thread CLF, pleased to hear you are on the mend :)
Up early, banking done, breakfast eaten, ebay parcels wrapped, paperwork for post office printed out and dog walked. The logs that OH ordered are arriving this morning apparently, so will put off post office and sales unit restock till this afternoon, as I will need to help him bring them up the garden from the back entrance and stack them away. And it is raining. Deep joy.
    Other things:
Print out invoice for some stuff I ordered for OH. It is related to his business so needs to go in his records (Done)
I still need to price up stuff for sales unit
    Make fish cakes for dinner
Not making any more ambitious plans as I have half a ton or so of logs to haul :D

    Happy New Year!

Thanks for starting us off CLF. Glad to hear it sounds like you and your OH are on the mend. Rest rest and rest prescribed from me.

LO is at nursery today... Not 100% sure how I feel about this. She has lots of outdoor play and it’s a v small nursery so not lots of other households to mix with

So...2021...starting off as I mean to go on:
    - food/drinks from home - no takeaways here!
    - Washing on airer
    - Sort YNAB
    -Journalling
    - Free kindle book
    - Early night!
    - started the Curly Girl method - no blow drying here :D

Righto, best get back to work. Need to make the most of it since the LO is back at nursery today :)

    Take care mis amigos!

    Good Evening everyone

Hi to all of the regulars and a BIG welcome to all the newbies, this is a really FAB thread with so many lovely, caring, considerate and supportive people.

@carrielovesfanta - Thanks for starting us off, glad to hear you are both improving.

Hoping to get back to some kind of normality but tonights announcement has sent me down again.  Have been really struggling with everything for the last few weeks.  Christmas was ok but not what we would have liked, mum came for Christmas Day, DD wasn't able to come as she tested positive and had to isolate, we have yet to see her with her Christmas presents and the same with eldest DS his presents are still here as due to the different tiers we've been unable to see him either.  DS (17) is due to start an Painting & Decorating apprenticeship with our local Council on the 14th but we think that might change again so his mood has hit rock bottom too, in other news he has started re-decorating his room and is doing a great job so a least he's getting a bit of experience.  Today we have:

    Checked Bank & made PAD
    Prepped RM Survey
    Swagbucks
Made an apple pie and a corned beef pie (both delicious and def using up what we have in)
    Purged a few emails
    Entered a few comps
    All meals from cupboards/fridge/freezer
    Checked: Lucky Bob, PMP, WinaDinner

Night all, catch you all tomorrow.

Morning thanks CLF for starting up thread. Feeling very bleak this morning. Not sure if I should buy my son a bus pass now, he'll only need it for 6 weeks after half term, and it's £250!
Also have sent some parcels to the wrong address in other country, am very embarrassed, might have to just get a new address book! A bit old school, but it would probably work. Remember when address books was the life line of people and organisations!

  • Hi everyone  Hope you're all doing ok. Day one in the determined household hasn't been too bad. A mixture of normal stuff (cleaning, cooking, living) plus some games and educational activities. Madam is writing a Christmas story atm (part of her homework we hadn't finished) and then we're planning to make pizza wheels in a bit.

Hoping this lockdown doesn't send me over the edge like last time, stress isn't very good for me health wise and causes me to become unwell and this situation is stressful! Madam has been offered a school space. I'm in two minds, oh is of the view she should stay at home. I've been concerned about the impact of the last year on her wellbeing. I kind of have made a decision by not making any decision now....

I bit the bullet and bought a ninja foodi - big expense so hoping we use it a lot and it changes our lives!

Need to finish TOMM. I've done dailies and our bedroom but still need to do madam's. she's just finished her story so think we'll do her room now before she has free time!

dinner is potato bake dish, oh & I will have lamb los, madam has vegetarian sausage

Think that's my lot. Better go get on with her room

  • Evening everyone,

Sorry for the late check in. Last residual covid symptoms seems to be bad sinus headaches which in turn, along with a load of other things yesterday, gave me a load of night time panic attacks. Felt rough as this morning but brighter again now and have been knitting a square for this blimmin blanket. Had a nice suprise to find that my old boss had sent me some flowers today :)

The man came and fixed the oven yesterday (hooray!) then a knock at the door. Had the shock of my life to find the Landlord on the step. He was very pleasant and polite (and a lot smaller than I remembered - I thought he towered over me), explained that he wasn't going to use the LA any more as he wasn't happy with them and we'd be dealing direct. I'm not sure how I feel about this - probably hence the panic attacks. I don't really like the idea of him coming in and looking round but I'm trying to be calm about it, after all, they have seen the pics from the LA over the years so they have seen inside effectively.

Also managed to sit and (try) to do the budget sheet yesterday. I'm £30 adrift but I think it's due to come vey convoluted accounting that I'd done with my Christmas money. Problem is, it made sense before I was sick and now it's over 2 weeks ago and I can't remember. On the plus side, I'm £30 up in my account, not down.

Fingers crossed for a nice night's sleep and a bright day tomorrow. On the plus side, the later start today has meant that I'm not so tired now as I was the last two days. Have also run out of pain killers so am having to just go with the headache!

    Love you all lots
