Vax Dual Power carpet washer. Advice about connecting front hose.

I have just bought a Vax W85-DP-E dual power carpet washer and the hose that goes between the base and the dirty water tank at the front is not connected and won't stay in place. when I try to connect it manually  In Vax's instruction video, it looks like the first picture.  On my new machine, the same area looks like the second picture. I can't find any information about this in the instruction manual.  Does anyone know how to fix this, please?

I should probably add that I'm deaf and cannot just get on the phone to Vax.

Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.

  • Hi Rosalind.

I can't find instructions for that specific model - most have a removable front 'scoop' that simply makes pressure contact with the hose connection (which is fixed in place and has a rubber seal around it). Yours ain't like that - it looks as tho' that hose is meant to push on and stay on.

Ok, the round hose orifice on the clear scoop - is that completely smooth or does it have a raised ridge around the opening? And the hose end - can you feel a matching ridge inside that? I'm wondering if it's a case of it needs pushing on further until it clicks into place?

That clear scoop - does it lift off? If so it might be easier to manipulate it on to the hose, getting better pressure on to it. If you pull the hose so's it's extended a bit, you should be able to grip that firmly in one hand. Then hold the scoop in whatever way is easier that'll allow you to push the opening in to the hose end - go 'GGRRRRRRRRRRR!' as you push - that usually helps.

Failing that, drop Vax an email.

Is there a groove in the black bit on the end of the hose that has to fit over the ridge on clear bit it has to connect to?

It looks to me that the black rubber piece on the end of the house simply goes over the ridge on the clear plastic part of the head. I think you probably have to give it a good shove to secure it on properly or you could try rolling it back on itself first to be able to roll it onto the head. There may well be a bit of a ridge on the inside of the black part that keeps it in place.

if not, then please move this post to where it needs to be.

i bought a vax dual power carpet washer via MSE some years ago and have tried to keep it clean after use. however it now refuses to spray water on to carpet. contacting VAX proved pointless as it tells me that no record or the serial number can be found. maybe i didn't register it? my fault then, but surely VAX must have a recored of the serial number to be able to see it was sold and then offer advice? no help at all!
