Hi guys,
Hoping for some advice from people who are using octopus agile tariffs. I do understand how it works and have seen their rates examples on their website (which are about 2 years old now)
My question is how much of a saving do you actually make using octopus agile compared to the cheapest fixed rate on the market. Currently i'm with symbio who despite their odd billing mechanism when it comes down to it are actually very cheap at around 10.5p per KwH.
I use around 7000KwH a year, have a small electric car (which i charge overnight most nights) and gas central heating.
I currently have a smets1 smart meter from lanys gyr, so i understand this would need to be changed if I were to go on agile.
I'm just curious, as i know electricity prices are rising, and when my fix ends in a couple of months i'm considering octopus agile.

Thanks for any help!

Average unit rates on Agile have increased quite a bit during the last few months. We switched from Agile to an Octopus Go Faster tariff in September and find that the average rate works out lower, for our usage profile.
For December, our average rate was 8.78p/kWh on the 5 hour Go Faster tariff. We estimate our Agile average rate would have been about 11.8p/kWh.
  • You can only save money on a ToU tariff if you proactively use energy when it is cheap. I am now on Go which suits me as I have solar and battery. Prior to getting solar in October last year, I got my average kWh price down to 7.5p/kWh: looking at recent prices, it would be much more now.

Thanks for your help guys. Prob doesn't seem worth it for me given the work needed to use energy when cheaper for such a small gain. A much better tariff for those with batteries or solar panels I guess.

The best tariffs for homes with batteries are Go and Go Faster: 4 or 5 hours at 5p/kWh. In my region, the rest of the time is is 14.62p/kWh. On Go, prior to getting a battery, I was able to get my average kWh cost to c.9p with very little load shifting.
