Car insurance quotes;..getting the timing right??

My car insurance is due for renewal 21st Jan.

I got three comparison site quotes on 20th December using identical criteria,...cheapest results as follows (which were all from LV):-

Comparethemarket: £196 ...MoneySupermarket: £196...Confused:£196

Same quotes obtained on 1st January:-

Comparethemarket: £193... MoneySupermarket:£193...Confused: £222

MSE  tell us that the optimum time to get the best quote is 21 days before renewal and certainly two of my quotes were slightly cheaper on the 1st January,... but the quote from Confused.com was 15% higher!

What’s going on there?

It looks like you are at about the low-point.  Just do it.

"21-days" is not some cast-iron guarantee. It's a rule of thumb.

Mine is due this month, for daily driver, too. As you have discovered the quotes seem to vary.
I kept an eye on Confused's quotes and eventually renewed through them. There's a £20 Shell fuel voucher from them, factor that in too.
It is genuine and works. I've renewed home and classic car insurance though Confused, received 2 x £20 vouchers and used both successfully (separately). £30 fuel and paid £10. £35 fuel and paid £15!
  • Update for anyone remotely interested:

With 17 days to go until my renewal ‘CompareTheMarket’ and ‘MoneySuperMarket’ both  quoting LV today at £187.

In addition MSM are offering a £25 Amazon voucher.

Both quoted £193 three days ago.
