Query: One person is using a LISA, one has used one in the past to buy a home

Hello!

I was very happy to benefit from the LISA scheme when I bought my home in June 2018, I managed to get 3 tax years of bonus.
My partner's name is not on the mortgage for the house, and she has never contributed to the mortgage payments.  We have lived together in the house since day 1, but she has never paid rent - we have a joint bank account but we only use it to pay for household bills.  I pay towards the mortgage from my own personal bank account.

With the view to upsizing one day, could my partner open up a LISA under her own name and contribute from her own personal bank account?  I know that you are able to use a LISA if you're buying with somebody who has already owned a house, but can that person have used a LISA for their purchase?

How strict are they with the LISA criteria?  I.E, would they have a track record of me using a LISA for my purchase back in 2018?  How investigatory are they in the sense of checking to see if my partner has ever made any contribution to my mortgage even though she clearly hasn't?

Thanks in advance.

Joe

Is your partner on the title deeds of your property?  Has your partner ever owned a property before?
Would the upsized property value be less than £450,000?
  • No, she is not on the title deeds of my property.  She has never owned a property before and yes, it’ll be under £450,000.

Then get partner signed up if you envisage moving some time. Could put £4k on now before end of tax year to get your first bonus
An answer isn't spam just because you don't like it......

Meant to come back to this thread, apologies.
I can't see any reason why your partner couldn't have a LISA for a future purchase, but I am not an expert so suggest you read up on all the terms and conditions just to clarify.
