Reviving side window rubbers for demisting?

  • I had a 2009 Fiesta which seemed to demist instantly. I then had a brand new Mk7 golf which was terrible.

Why not try something like this:
    Rain-X Anti-Fog 200ml | Halfords UK

I think the OP is referring to clearing the windows on the outside, not the interior.

Rain-x used to make a version that was supposed to be for exterior use.
Everybody else in the whole world (apparently) used it on their motorcycle visor, screen, mirrors etc and it was the best product ever for them, but it never worked for me.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

I'm actually just referring to the side windows. Whether the misting/condensation be on the inside, outside or both sides.

I'm referring to the situation where you look out of your side window and you can't see a thing. You put your window all the way down, put it all the way back up and voila you can see clearly.

Tried this for the inside rear window. Absolute pile of poop. Didn't make the slightest bit of difference.

Their rain repellent product is ok. It's problem is it doesn't last that long.

Aquapel is a really good rain repellent product but the applicators aren't cheap. I've read that Soft99 Glaco is perhaps as good as if not better than Aquapel. If it's better then it must be tip top as Aquapel lasts a long time. But we're getting off topic on to other products now :)

Yes, which is usually the condensation on the outside of the window.

Rainx is shockingly bad, I only use it to clean my fish tank now. If you are having an issue with demisting theres not a fault with the rubbers, its a fault with the heating and /or the blower. Sort that, problem goes away.

Why do you say it's shockingly bad? And which RainX product are you referring to?
The repellent isn't that bad. It does its job well ... just not for long enough.
The anti fog though, i'm totally with you.

I can't believe that this isn't a function though that is on all cars. I assumed when it no longer did it it was just the car or more the rubbers getting old.

And since you brought it up ... what fish do you keep? We have 6 tanks ourselves. Did have 7 not all that long ago. Only 5 are occupied right now with the 6th one cycling.

Mostly mollies and some plecos at the moment but thats more their choice than mine, frisky critters.
The rainx 2 in 1 is the wrst I've used, not great at cleaning but hydrophobic initially. Then it smears after not much time at all to the point of being dangerous.

Ahh can't say i've used that product. I find all this stuff hazes up when you rub it on. I've had a bit of a nightmare trying to buff some of this stuff off after leaving it too long but that was the Aquapel. Great product. I fancy trying the Glaco stuff but don't fancy paying the price really.

And we keep bettas mostly - hence the number of tanks and them being a bit hit & miss with other fish.
I have a 70ltr in the PC room that has endlers, a couple of mystery snails and a couple of spixy snails in it. We initially bought a mystery snail, not really wanting snails but to clean out the algae from a tank and then we grew to quite liking them. They're good to watch and they're pretty fast around the tank for what they are. I think it's illegal to buy/sell them in the UK which is a bit poor. The wife keeps saying i need to get more/different fish in the tank but i've never gotten round to it.
And in another tank we have 3 more mystery snails but they're too small to go in the big tank right now as they'll just get syphoned up.
