MED4 Form

On my Med 4 form the Doctor has ticked the box that says "You need not refrain from your usual occupation" could this go against me when I attend the medical with the hope of claiming IB?

For readers who aren't aware you can find a copy of a Med 4 here Appendix H - Example certificates and report forms - [PDF file size .98MB]

I would check with your doctor that he did actually mean to tick the box saying that you need not refrain from your usual occupation rather than ticking the box that you should refrain from your usual occupation as I feel that if your own doctor is advising you return to work the PCA assessment will almost certainly come to the same conclusion.

Thanks for the advise Ted, but on the day is it all about how many points you score if you get the correct amount you get IB if you don't you are refused. Has anyone else had a the same thing happen on the Med 4 form?

It is true that if your score meets the threshold All Work Test Calculator(now called the Personal Capability Assessment) you will get your IB. The assessing doctor doesn't have to agree with your own GP's assessment (more often than not they don't) however should both your own GP and the PCA doctor agree that you would be best advised to return to work you will find it very difficult to win at appeal.
It is more common for a PCA doctor to overrule a GP who thinks you should refrain from work than overrule a GP who suggests you should return to work.
