Letter writing

These restrictions of travelling being enforced has led me to start writing letters again, especially to my elderly relatives. They are always pleased to receive a hand-written note than something electronic, as I am too.
I know the cost of a stamp has gone up recently but to send something well-received for 100 or more miles away for under a quid seems a bargain.

That seems a good idea. We leave letters unopened for a few days, to allow any virus on the paper to die. It's probably complete nonsense, but we are still alive, so don't knock it!
If I knew which of the precautions we are taking are actually effective, I'd only take those ones. But, I don't.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?3 -
Really? You actually do this?1

I know several people who do this. I'm a reckless young thing, and I love getting hand written mail, so I take the envelope off at the front door with a glove on, put it in a carrier bag along with the glove, then take the letter inside. Probably does nothing, but I feel better about it and I haven't got ill yet.1

We disinfect our mail using a dilute solution of Zoflora in an spray bottle and wash our hands after picking the mail up.The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.1

Think of it as a harmless eccentricity, rather than raving lunacy. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?1 -
I’m not sure about the disinfectant side of things, but I’m still writing and sending letters. I don’t tend to do so throughout the rest of the year but definitely now. I have elderly relatives who don’t have Facebook, and other family members who have a Facebook account but never log on. , I love writing and receiving letters, so continue to do so.1

I always love to receive a letter, but hadn't thought about disinfecting it!2

I'm a big penpaller and have not taken any precautions this year with mail, but if it makes you feel safe, fair enough!0

Have you heard of Banjo Robinson? It's a penpal service for children. Banjo is a globetrotting cat who sends personalised letters in the post to children - the letters include reply stationery and children love to write back to him! It's a magical service that sparks joy in kids during these unprecedented times - and helps with their reading and writing too! x

That's a great idea, especially for friends and family that may not be as clued in to digital communication like email and social media. I have to admit it's been quite some time since I've sent an actual letter, but I may follow your lead and send one out to some of the older folks in my family.0
