Robocalled from Halifax...that wasn't them.

Just (in last few days) opened a/c with Halifax, selected methods of contact to be ONLY online and email. Today received two separate auto-voice calls saying they were from the Halifax, thanking me for opening the account and to make sure I paid in funds by x date. Nothing more. 1471 gave me the number which I then googled and discovered plenty to be concerned about.
Contacted Halifax who said (after phoning the number) that it was nothing to do with them, transferred me to their fraud department who were most unhelpful and dismissive, said there was nothing they could do - nor even advise me HOW someone outside their business would have access to my landline number to be able to do this.
Coincidence? I think not - don't believe in them. I pointed out to her that I had ONLY provided my details to them via their website within the last few days. My computer is (I thought!!) highly protected with well-branded paid-for-protection.
Anyone shed any light on what might be going on, and if there's any need for me to be more concerned than I already am, I am very security conscious and can't understand how the leak occurred. Many thanks.

Did they ask for any personal details or try to defraud you?
If not, move on it might be that the call is part of the account opening procedure and that you would not get future 'human' calls for say marketing purposes.3 -
Just because you select contact by online and email, does not mean in certain situation they do not use phone/text contact. Security checks on online payments being one.
Which number was it that called?Life in the slow lane2
