Car Insurance before 17th birthday

Hi, can anyone help? We've bought a car which will eventually be transferred over to my son once he passes his test, so currently owned & insured in dads name. My son turns 17 on the 6th January, but when trying to get a quote to add him on, I can't get any further when I input his date of birth, as it says he's not 17 yet. Tried calling the broker I'm currently with, but they've now closed for the holidays. Any help, or do I just have to wait till they reopen? I was trying on Confused as I was informed a few weeks back that my current insurer doesn't do learner drivers, so I'll probably have to cancel my insurance & just start again.

I guess just use a suitably amended date of birth for the purposes of getting quotes, and then give them the real one whenever you actually want it to start?
