Confused neighbours leads us to end up paying for fence panels on BOTH sides

I'm not sure why some are suggesting that the OP annoys their neighbours. That's no way to live harmoniously. As mentioned someone in a row of houses will always end up being responsible for two boundaries and of course people want fences for privacy. The OP could try to get one of the neighbours to share the cost but that can cause problems as well.

I am in a similar position to this as because I live the second in from the end of the road, I have about six gardens down the left hand side of my garden.
A few years back, one of the gardens on the left decided it would be good to have a bonfire and set fire to the fence on my left. He duly replaced, but badly and it fell down. There is now a new council tenant in that house and they are adamant it is my responsibility. I must admit, his attitude has contributed a lot to the way I am reacting to it. Because my garden is so long and I don't have a dog, I am so unbothered by the lack of fence as I can't even see that there isn't a fence panel there until I walk down to the end of my garden due to it being down the far end of mine and there is a lot of hedge/bush hiding the lack of fence (it is the end of his garden and so impact on him more than me).
He didn't approach me at first, but harrassed my poor dad when he was bringing my kids home from school (all pre Covid). I don't think he wanted to deal with a woman and kept telling my dad to fix it or get my husband to do so (there is no husband). I have heard him on the phone in the garden complaining to the council who have told him they can't force me to put a new panel up (I own my house).
I probably would have fixed it if he wasn't being such an a4s3 about it, but hey ho. I tried reasoning with him by asking by his logic (i.e. fence on left is my responsibility), who should fix the one at the end of my garden as that is on the right of the person at the end? He literally did not want to speak to me. I'm kinda hoping the one at the end blows down and I fix that just to annoy him, haha.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010
