Register an Electric Smart Meter
Hi i was wondering if anyone has had to deal with a problem i have encountered. My previous tenants arranged for the replacement of the electric meter with a smart meter. A company called Solarplicity installed the new meter and took away the old one. I only found out they had changed the meter once the tenants vacated the property and I became responsible for the bills. The meter reading on the new smart meter was wildly out from the estimated bills i was receiving from my energy supplier (Actual reading 10500 estimate 72300). When I investigated why I found out that the company who installed the meter, Solarplicity had gone into Administration and had not registered the new smart meter. I am been given the run a round by my current supplier British Gas who don't seem interested in helping to get the meter registered, can anyone advise how i can get the meter registered so the supplier will take actual readings and stop giving estimates?
Many thanks
Many thanks

As the tenants didn't hand back the property in the same state that they found it, I trust that you kept all of their deposit?0

And the meter does not belong to the landlord. It belongs to the supplier, who has a legal right to change the meter if they want to.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.1 -
It is only the present supplier that can change meter details on the National Database. The question that I would be asking is how did BG takeover a meter serial number that doesn't exist? Look at your last bill, is BG billing you on estimated reads based on your old meter? If this is the case, you could try asking BG to fit a new smart meter.1

A supplier registers against a Meter Point not a meter so if the MSN is weong that doesn't stop the exchange.[Deleted User] said:It is only the present supplier that can change meter details on the National Database. When the meter was exchanged normally the engineer will leave details at the propery of the exchange including old MSN and final readings, exchnga date, new MAN and opening reading. That's what you need to look for, it may be by the meter.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

I get that, but if the old meter serial number has not been removed from the database, and the new meter has not been registered properly, then this may account for what the OP is seeing. The MPAN and meter serial number will be on the latest BG bill so it is an easy thing to check. I have just had both my SMETS2 meters replaced after just 18 months. The installer failed to complete the installation (it all got too difficult, and he left to go to another appointment) and my supplier had to talk me through the installation process a couple of days later.spiro said:

No, i gave back 100% of the deposit. Apparently the law as it stand gives the right to the tenant to change the meter without informing the landlord.Gerry1 said:As the tenants didn't hand back the property in the same state that they found it, I trust that you kept all of their deposit?0 -
Yes that is what they should do but the Solarplicity chap who exchanged the meter left a small form attached to the new meter blank, he didn't complete the details you mentioned. I tried to contact Solarplicity and that was when i found out they had gone into Administration.spiro said:
