Roblox - robux

Options
Hi,
My son plays roblox and whenever he gets Christmas / Birthday money he wants to convert it into Robux to spend in the games - We usually talk him into something more tangible however he persuaded me to let him spend about £18 on robux. He has done this previously in the past and has been very careful how he spends his his hard fought for robux.
He then went off to play roblox. Within 10 mins he was back and really upset, he was playing a game (magnet simulator) and says that the 'buy/acknowledge pop up' appeared in the area of the jump button and he ended up buying 2 festive magnets he didn't want using up about £15 worth of his robux. He hasn't used them and asked me if there was anything we could do as he didn't want them. He has purchased stuff in the past on roblox so knows how the system should work.
I contacted roblox and they said they do not refund the robux for money (not what we wanted) and to contact the game developer (who they also say is not permitted to refund robux) .
The game developer has a message tag next to his name but it is greyed out so we cannot message the developer.
Robux also say there is no 'cooling off period' because they have a 2 stage purchase process.
Whilst this is an important life lesson for my son who can now see that robux can be a complete waste of money  (as I had been telling him for a week) it doesn't seem right that roblox deny any responsibility and will not allow refunds - if nothing else the developer is not being told that either by accident or design the 'buy/acknowledge' appeared in the wrong place. My last email to roblox I requested they contact the developer on my behalf and I am awaiting a response, generally the responses from roblox have just gone around in circles - nothing we can do - we have a 2 stage process so don't / wont give refunds - contact the developer.

Does digital content differ from physical goods in a distance selling situation. Obviously if it was software you were buying it is hard to prove it hasn't been used prior to return, but in this case the 'festive magnets' still show in his account - I believe once used they will disappear.

Which jurisdiction are we dealing with here? I'm guessing that UK regulations aren't going to be relevant.
ETA: California. No idea what (if any) relevant statutory rights you have under Californian law.
Governing Law. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California without regard to conflict of law principles. If a lawsuit or court proceeding is permitted under these Terms, you and we agree to submit to the personal and exclusive jurisdiction of the state courts and federal courts located within the Northern District of California for the purpose of litigating any Dispute
  • £15 is quite cheap for a life lesson, hopefully he'll take it onboard. Personally I'd just move on, if you get a refund he wont learn and always expect a refund if he doesnt think things through and wastes money.
  • I had thought if they sell here they would need to comply with law here, so its turning into a life lesson for me too :)
The fact it was either a deliberate or accidental positioning of the purchase/acknowledge button by the jump button annoys me - also the attitude of roblox customer (lack of) service.
