Quote for some roof repairs

Hi,

Noticed that there are a fair few threads re roofs so my apologies for another one.

Obtained a quote of £450 to replace a cracked roof tile. The guy did say that due to the type of tiles, there is a possibility of damaging the others around it when removing it - is this true?

In addition, the quote is to replace the 'felt' (no idea what that part is called?) grayish bit around roof where the neighbours guttering is leaking - they are getting there part fixed separately.

Have I received a fair quote?

The grey bit around the edge is called "flashing" - Usually lead. Apart from the bit above the velux window, it looks to be in fair condition.
Depending on how the tiles are fixed, there is a chance that others could be damaged. Tiles rest on battens running the width of the roof. To reduce the risk of slipping, the tiles are sometimes secured in place with nails or screws. In the past, it was often every third row that was nailed down. Your cracked tile is on the fourth row down, so it should be quite easy for any competent roofer to lift the tiles above should any be nailed down.

Go get a couple more quotes.

Thank you Freebear - greatly appreciate your feedback.

Will a roofer be able to replace sections (the part above the velux) of the flashing without damaging or compromising the other parts of the flashing? I would imagine so, but I have no experience of this at all.

Got somebody else to have a look during the week so will update.

    Thanks again.
