Much is made of the possibilities for rescheduling tax debt but currently it’s almost impossible to discuss this with HMRC. Self service via its website may work but webchat and phone contact are out of the question.

    Try phoning first thing when they open. Start dialling a few minutes before hand.

    I have just tried webchat and it says adviser available.

    Write a letter detailing everything thoroughly.

    Payment plans can’t be done by letter. Has to be done via phone, online etc.

    You can set up a payment plan online.
