Warning re. Investec

App only savings account with OS requirements. And no second sign up or operations channel.
I believe the phrase which applies here is "hard pass".
Single channel = Always a terrible plan even if it seems short term quick and simple - mainly because of continuity.
App only planned OS obsolescence for unrelated to mobile tech services = Rude and unwanted and customer alienating.
Don't support the old mobile versions. Fine. Just have a web offer alongside. Can't be bothered and want to insist on forced phone purchases to access your mediocre (all savings accounts presently) relatively low value product. Sling your hook. The further the better. Slow handclap for Investec
Android 9 and above only. Oh my aching sides.

I've just read all the above. Yep, entirely agree with the frustrated comments. I've just tried to open a notice account with Investec and experienced the same problems. Spent hours trying to get my phone to read the QR code, which it wouldn't, then photo'ing my driver's licence via the sent link, which wouldn't allow my camera lens to view my d/licence. I talked to the online adviser who tried to help but said there was no alternative. I messaged her in the end to say I'd got blinding headache and was giving up. I will go to another banking institution. I appreciate the need for online security but there has to be another way to communicate verification. It is indeed discriminatory as it disenfranchises anyone without a smartphone (mine is a smartphone but appears not to have precisely the operating functions required and are not easily installed). Result? 'Bye bye Investec.0

Can I open an account without a smartphone?
Unfortunately, you must have a smartphone to open an online savings account with us because you need to be able to verify your identity during the application process by providing a selfie.
You’ll also need a smartphone to verify yourself when you want to do certain things with your account after you’ve opened it. This helps us make sure we’re only ever allowing you to access your money.

Thanks for that ..... I guess I'm maybe being overcautious (I generally am ....!) but I am a bit wary of stuff thats overly reliant on Tech without a high street presence in case of problems.Any more input from anybody who actually has the account would be very welcome....!0
