Renewing car insurance before points appear on licence

Hello all,
My car insurance will renew automatically on the 3rd of Jan. My car insurance policy says that I do not need to inform them if I get any points on my licence until renewal.
I have accepted a conditional offer of a fixed penalty. My licence has been surrendered and is currently with the conditional offer unit being processed. According to gov.uk the points have not yet been added to my licence.
My question is - if the points do not appear on my licence (according to gov.uk) by the 3rd Jan - do I have to inform my insurers or can I let the insurance renew automatically? Say if the points don't get added until 4th Jan then would I not have to inform them for another year according to their policy?
Many thanks for your help.

Are the points dated on date of the offence?

    They will be.
The OP needs to check the insurer's exact wording. They tend to use words like "pending", or even ask about offences rather than penalties.
In any case, it's probably not worth trying to play the system. If it's his first three points, it will likely have little or no effect

  • Thanks for the advice - if the points are the date of the offence then it definitely makes sense to make them aware. Thanks for the advice. Will post the outcome.

It's ALWAYS better to tell them.

Tell them, and you don't need to?
Worst case: A little bit extra premium. For 1xSP30 FPN, that's going to be minimal to nothing.

Don't tell them, when you needed to?
Worst case: Have to declare cancelled policy forever, get handed large claim bill.
  • C'mon.
You know your trying to pull a fast one here, so will the insurers.
And that can cause you a lot bigger issues.

All you'd really be doing is delaying it as you will still have to declare it for the same number of policy years.
