Simply Switch - door sales - dodgy??
Hello
I had someone knock on my door earlier, when I opened it, they said 'can you get the energy report'.
I had no clue what he was on about so I asked where he was from. He told me he was from Kent.
I told him I wanted to know which company he was from, per his ID badge. He finally told me he was from Simply Switch, as if he didn't know what I meant the first time.
I asked him if it was a sales call, he told me no, he was representing all energy companies and wanted to find the best deal for me, and asked who my energy provider was. I looked up the company and they are an energy comparison website.
I asked if he gets a commission if I switch, which he said he did, and finally acknowledged this was a sales call. At this point I told him I wasn't interested and closed the door.
Has anyone experienced this with them as well? I had someone from them a few weeks ago, with a similarly evasive approach. Didn't identify themselves, claimed to represent all energy companies, asked me who my provider is from the get-go.
I am in a Tier 4 area so unsure if these people should be even trying to do door sales.

Could well be a burglar casing the joint.People aren't necessarily who they claim to be. That friendly person ringing you to tell you your computer has a dreadful virus may not always be one of Bill Gates's chums...Just take a photo of the caller (their reaction may well give you a clue as to their motive) and say politely but firmly that you don't deal with cold callers, and close the door.0

I suspect it will be a genuine sales call, but I would not be inclined to be giving my banking details to an uninvited stranger knocking on my door0

I had one of these at the door. I felt it was inappropriate because of the virus. They did not immediately identify themselves, so I asked. They claimed to make some sort of calculation based on ( wrong) assumptions and were going on about the cap, which is not a cap on your bill as it depends on usage, but that most companies are using to overcharge customers.. They had to back off when I told them I was on a fixed deal with exit fees.
As far as I could tell they were genuine, but I did not give them any personal or bank details. Better to be safe than sorry,0 -
Used to be relatively common to have these door knockers ,either claiming to be from eg "MoneyExpert" or a supplier.
However, in our area it stopped a few years ago now. I sincerely hope it isn't going to start up again0 -
Genuine or not, NO ONE gets to sell me ANYTHING on the doorstep.0

Never buy anything at the door .If they are that good why do they need to go on the knock ?0

Never allow these people to see your bills either as they have been known to submit switch requests regardless of you asking them to do it or not, so don't let them gather enough information to submit a switch or you could find yourself dealing with a surprise new supplier and the hassle of reversing an unauthorised switch...
